Wolves boss refuses to point finger of blame [video]

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has defended Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell after his challenge left Adlene Guedioura with a broken leg. The Algerian midfielder was injured late during last week’s Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolves at Molineux.

Sidwell has insisted there was no intent in the challenge which has sidelined Guedioura for at least 4 months and has wished the Wolves midfielder a speedy recovery. He told www.avfc.com:

“I wish Adlene well and I hope he makes a quick and full recovery.”

“Obviously, I went in to play the ball with no malice whatsoever. My intent was purely to play the ball and I’d just like to say again that I wish him all the best in his recovery.”

Guedioura joined Wolves from Belgian club RSC Charleroi in January initially on loan. He impressed enough to earn a permanent deal at Molineux, signing a three year contract in the summer but he will now be resigned to lengthy spell on the sidelines.
